Qigong

Qigong is a time honoured form of movement practices and meditation that supports health, wellbeing and attunement. The earliest records of the Qigong forms are from about 4000 years ago in ancient Daoist China.

It is a gentle practice that supports the flow, balance and harmony of the energy field and thus works to improve our health, stability and wellbeing.

It involves a series of flowing movements and standing postures that are easy to learn. It can include walking and meditation practices. While the practice is mostly done standing it can also be done sitting, and even lying. I am interested in its value for rehabilitation and recovery. It is suitable for all ages.

Within the Daoist philosophy underlying Chinese medicine is an understanding of the changing flow of energy through the seasons of the year which manifests as the 5 Elements. I bring this as a thread into the classes and enjoy the way that it connects us to seasons and to this moment in time.

I have been exploring Qigong for many years, and have recently completed a Qigong teacher training course which has allowed me to delve more deeply into this work and to offer ongoing classes.

Having worked as an osteopath for over 40 year  I feel in a good position to understand the body and how to support health.

There are many ways in which the principals of Osteopathy are helpful and supportive to our understanding and practice of Qigong and I am working to integrate the two.

If practiced regularly Qigong can bring energy, peace and stability to body mind and spirit. I aim to give you practices that you can work with at home.

At this point I teach the 18 Shibashi sets 1 and 2, the 8 Brocades, the Preheaven form and 5 Element forms. I am always learning and updating and including new material.

Please email me if you have questions about the relevance of Qigong for you, or come to a session to try it out.
